Glen, The pictures of Okeene are nice. I am trying to get our website up but still working fulltime and finding it difficult. I have my genealogy back to the 1400's and we have a national reunion in Jefferson City, Missouri. My great grandfather, Mathias moved to Oklahoma in about the year 1900 and acquired the family farm about 8 miles west of Bison, Oklahoma. I ran across this site by accident and glad I did. Okeene looks almost as I remember almost 30 years ago. My parents were born and raised in Okeene and I have relatives yet around Okeene. I was born and raised in Colorado. We would go to Okeene 3 or 4 times a year. My grandmother (Mary Hazel Weber) is buried in the cemetery there as well as other relatives. I'm so excited about finding this site. My mother is still living and she's in Grand Junction Colorado. I wish I could show her this site. She's 86 years old. My dad passed in 1997 in Grand Jct. I've been trying to collect information about the Oklahoma Land Rush as my great- grandmother was in it. They homesteaded a little ways out of Okeene. Name was Daniel and Daisy Webster. I think there are relatives there yet named Cook. Some are in the cemetery. My mother's name is Leola (Webster) Palmer. She married Russell (Dick) Palmer I believe in 1938. Well I could go on forever, but I want you to know what a great site you have. If you wish you can e-mail me. Sincerely Joyce (Palmer) Kitsembel. ~ Original Post: Sunday, 5/28/06, 2:39 PM ~

Hi Glen! Random search took me to your Random Thoughts. I would normally just breeze through a web page after finding what I was looking for, in this case, the joke that says it's speaking English that kills you. But I was attracted to your site's contents -- interesting and helpful stuff -- so I thought I'd read further. I was not disappointed. Too, your web design is elegant in its simplicity and the layout, consistent indeed. How I wish other sites could be as impressive. Congratulations! All the best from this side of the globe. ~ Original Post: Tuesday, 4/18/06, 12:15 PM ~

Glen, I am signing in again because I just read your Bio... I didn't know you grew up on a farm, and didn't know you are a Viet Nam Vet...the farm gives us something in common, as we farm here in WY. Being Viet Nam vet makes me feel humble...right or wrong, you guys that were there should feel proud to have served your country in a time of strife...my father was a WWII vet and my first husband was also in Nam ('67-'68) and my husnabd happens to be a military history 'buff', and we both are Patriots and support our troops... Stumbled across your Web site via Homestead Forums, and thought I'd stop in for a look. Quite a surprise to find a fellow Okie. I was born in Ft. Sill, OK as a military brat - having moved around from one country or state to another most of my life. My grandparents resided in Garber, OK, and that's where we would spend our time between military stations. I spent 3-yrs of high school at Garber before moving into Enid and graduating from EHS. I currently reside in Washington with my husband and two boys, but still visit Enid about twice a year as my grandmother, younger sister, and best friend still reside there. ~ Original Post: Sunday, 3/12/06, 1:06 AM ~

I enjoyed the pictures of Okeene. I played many a basketball games there with the mighty Ames basketball team in Grade School and High School. The District tournaments were always exciting . That was in the 1950's. One friend I became aquainted on the court was Georgia Ann Wilson. We correspondented for many years and have recently again began renewed our friendship. My husband, Nolan Loges and I have lived in Kake, Alaska for 28 years. We came to Kake, which is a Tlingit Indian village in Southeast Alaska, to be missionaries. Kake is on a small island with only 3 miles of paved road, and no other towns on the island. Groceries are very high. The population is 650.The most a watermelon cost was $14.00 and it wasn't any good. We greatly miss those black diamond watermelons we hoed as kids. A good friend claims Okeene as home, Joyce Smith I greatly enjoyed your web page about Okeene. ~ Original Post: Thursday, 12/8/05, 9:39 PM ~

Hi, Glen. Read and enjoyed your piece on "UP". This came to us through a volunteer ESL tutor in donwtown Chicago, whose daughter works in our Head Start program. I shared the comments with our Literacy/Adult Education staff, most of whom have graduate training as teachers of English as a Second Language, but all of whom are language "jinkies" of one type or another. Anyway, thanks for giving your good thoughts to one of the many. many conundrums of our language.
